Inspired by the life long work of Pia Zanetti, Azura was interested in exploring what a social documentary project process could look like for herself. Through her friendship with break dancer Andrea Biel, Azura had the opportunity to visit the BAAS (Be Aware and Share) community centre in loannina, Greece, in August 2023. [1] Consent and transparency of intention of sharing, publishing and making photographs visible and accessible in the public eye is a primary topic of concern for Azura. As an active decision, the original photographs showing the faces of those portrayed are visible only in the exhibition itself. With the exception of documentation images of the photographs in the exhibition space, the originals won’t be shared online or printed. With dual purpose of protection and inviting attentive listening, Azura references Tina Campt’s “Listening to Images” (Campt, 2017) by editing blank pages over the faces in the photographs published below.

[1] Founded in Switzerland in 2015, the independent grassroots organisation provides a safe space for the local population of Ioannina to come together with the refugee communities situated in the camps on the outskirts of the city.
