Unveiled Stories
An insight into the impact of Muslim women living in Switzerland after the “Burka Ban” in 2021.
Unveiled Stories (working title) is the development of a photographic series that explores the lives of Muslim women in Switzerland affected by the 2021 “Burka Ban” legislation. Rather than reducing the women to political symbols, the project invites them to reclaim narrative agency through image. In a climate where they are often spoken about rather than spoken with, the work seeks to build intimacy, complexity and collaboration. It is not an attempt to speak for them, but to listen, portray and contextualise the reality of the individual.
This project welcomes all women aged 18 and above who currently live in Switzerland (in any region and for any length of time), who are of Muslim faith and who have experienced negative or alienating treatment connected to the 2021 “Burka Ban.”
You are warmly invited to participate regardless of whether you wear a headscarf, wear a particular style of covering or no longer wear one at all.
